I am wondering if we are going to have to continue to memorize more and more. I can count at least 8 different passwords I need for my job. Then there are the usernames, passwords and PINs for all sorts of websites… financial institutions, utility companies, newspaper registrations, weblogs, etc., none of which seem to even allow the same alphanumeric constraints. I’ve even memorized two library card bar codes by now. I realize that some smart people out there must be working on conceiving of information security from a user’s point of view, but clearly not enough institutions think that’s important. Or else there’s just one grand coordination problem.
