It’s not as radical as Dylan going electric, or Amy Grant going secular, but from now on, I’ll be blogging at a new address:
http://www.leftcenterleft.com/
It’s more than the vanity URL, too. I’ll be joining Boston Web Properties, which despite the Orwellian name is simply a local web-ad network coordinated and run by Dan Zarella. In other words, there will be ads, though it remains to be seen how much demand there is to advertise on a local political blog. You may see some cross-promotion among BWP blogs, but nothing too intrustive. Editorial control will remain strictly mine.
Why the change? There’s whatever spare change ads provide, of course. And then there are technical reasons: Typepad was great at first, but has become more cumbersome as a) my computer grows older and b) comment spam multiplies. Having Word Press’s simpler interface and support on the back end of things will be great.
Finally, there’s a sense of purpose. I’ve been blogging since December of 2002, over three years now, and felt a little fatigue. Joining the network seemed like a good opportunity to refocus on local and state politics, which I’ve been leaning more toward anyway. I’ll still write about what interests me - and national/world events and politics is part of that - but expect less of the academic topics, or the music and pop culture posts. I may institute Film Fridays if things get too dull.
There will be some glitches: linkrot, missing photos, etc. Right now I’m working on importing the old comments over, which hopefully I can figure out. If anything, the exercise makes me appreciate how many of you have spent the time to leave comments here. I’m greatful for your all’s readership - without it, this move wouldn’t even make sense. Thanks.
