Go read this post at Blue Mass Group on wind power, conservation and energy policy. It won’t be 100% new to readers perhaps, but the writer, stomv, outlines the problems facing regional energy policy in clear and understandable terms. He certainly frames the issue of power production in ways I’d never thought about. For all the talk of citizen journalism, by the way, I actually think it’s this kind of policy analysis where conventional journalism and mainstream news outlets fail the most and where blogging has a lot to add.
The writer’s recommendation? Pursue wind power, but mostly as a means of less expensive, ecologically friendly energy production. For supplying energy during peak demand, the only real options are fossil-fuel burning plants or time-metering. Stomv makes a convincing case that time-metering is far preferable.
The question I have is, what currently keeps utility companies from charging based on time-demand?
