Congestion Tax (reprised)

Posted on Friday 3 March 2006

John Keith notes a story about a proposed congestion tax for New York City and wonders about our city:

So, inevitably, someone will say we should have it in Boston. Could it work? Is it worth even thinking about? Or, is it stupid to even bring up?

Actually, it was proposed to the city council last year by Paul Scapicchio (who’s announced his resignment from the council this week). At the time, it struck me as a bad idea, foremost because most of our congestion comes from people driving within the city limits, not from outside. And Derek at Third Decade offered some smart thoughts on the proposal.
