I’m just about finished with Guns, Germs, and Steel for next Thursday’s book club gathering. Funnily enough, I turn to the back page, where I see that the paperback edition has discussion questions for reading groups!
Um, they’re not very good questions, so let me point to an interesting blog debate that’s popped up. It started with two posts at Savage Minds, a group blog of anthropologists. Brad Delong criticized them, and Henry of Crooked Timber chimed in. Tim Burke counter-responded with a critique of GSS. Savage Minds offers a link roundup, including some other articles worth checking out.
It’s a great book (at least I think so), so you should peruse it, and come join us next Thursday at 6 PM at the usual place (Espresso Royale near Northeastern and Symphony).
