Lazy Friday Link Roundup

Here’s some reading I found particularly worthwhile this week.

Via Laura Rozen I’ve just discovered the Democracy Arsenal, excellent group blog devoted to center-left foreign policy. The posts are all great, from the 10 Step program for Democrats to a post on TV representations of Africa.

Mark Schmitt reprises his “Death of Environmentalism” post in a revised, expanded article in the American Prospect. It’s a must-read for anyone interested in how the Democrats should juggle policy and political positioning.

Kash at Angry Bear wonders about the possibility of a soft landing in the dollar’s fall, and Brad Delong explains the quite possible worst case scenario of a hard landing.

Nathan Newman argues for smarter housing policy from Democrats. Key line: “In New York and around the country, the almost complete absence of a real progressive program for housing — a budget item absorbing from 30%-50% of most families income — is emblematic of the left’s failure to engage the real pocketbook issues of American families.” The comments are smart, too.

I missed it first time around, but Tyler Green’s scathing attack on the MFA’s lack of ethics in lending out its Monets to Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas is a fascinating read. I’m not sure I share the same faith in industry trade groups, but he certainly has a point in this case. I also can’t help but notice that there seems to be a pattern in which the museum director deflects substantive criticism with an anti-elitist pose.

Steve Bailey rages against the machine.
