Oscar ratings beat expectations

I’m not sure the Academy should be as worried about ratings as they are; the industry should focus on making films that engage audiences and the rest will follow. That said, the idea that one year’s format change or host can be judged by the ratings spike or drop seems odd - the malaise the telecast faces will need a longer term fix.
