Thanks to Adam at Universal Hub for the mention of me/this blog in the Globe yesterday. If you otherwise happened to be flipping though the Sunday paper, perhaps you came across this letter to the editor, in response to an article on Ayn Rand:
America in the 21st century desperately needs more people like Howard Roark: someone with an entrepreneurial risk-taking zeal tempered with a passionate social consciousness. But, alas, such people are very, very rare.
What an odd statement. More entrepreneurs like Howard Roark? It’s been ages since I’ve read The Fountainhead, but doesn’t he, like, blow up the building at the end because the design’s not pure? And social consciousness enters nowhere into Rand’s ethics, quite the opposite in fact.
Mind you, since the letter turns out to object to the tenets of Randism, I suspect the author simply is unfamiliar with her writing, not constructing some odd paean to her.
