Mayor “Mumbles” Menino just gave the opening address - tanned, slimfasted and with a quality haircut. Clearly the man has no possibility for national office, given his patent lack of oratory skill, but there’s something touching about his speech - you just know that beneath the boilerplate there’s a sincerity and an embattled optimism that’s missing in other, bigger time politicians.
Technical difficulties seem to be infecting the WGBH/NECN telecast, and Emily Rooney is having a hard time being heard over the din from the Fleet Center podium. Bob Reich really shines as an analyst at a partisan event like this, and so far at least Ralph Martin’s being pretty gracious in letting the Dems have their party.
