Over at the New Republic, Ryan Lizza asks,
Remember the Iraq Stabilization Group? Unveiled with much ballyhoo back in October, it was seen as Condi Rice’s attempt to tear Iraq policy-making away from the fumbling Pentagon and centralize things at the White House.
You know, I had totally forgotten about that. One of the striking aspects of this current war is how quickly the news cycle has been compressed. It’s true of events in Iraq, which seem to be complicating daily, but it’s also true of the policy aspect of the war, where fairly recent history has to be dusted off and brought back to the fore. Lizza’s post, which tracks what’s happened to the Iraq Stabilization Group, is a good reminder of an administration policy trumpeted as key to achieving domestic stability in Iraq, then quickly forgotten.
