Fashion notes

From today’s roundup:

1) Burberry sales are up, remarkably so for a fashion retailer, at 13% over the last year. The source of their success? As the Guardian notes,

The story of the Burberry revival is a story of paradoxes…. “They’ve trodden the clever line between being very smart and Footballers’ Wives,” observes Alexandra Schulman, editor of British Vogue. “There is a tradition, a heritage that they’ve kept, a lot of which is about posh advertising - posh as in Stella Tennant, rather than Posh.”

The article has a good rundown on the vicissitudes of the label’s look and cache. Apparently in the UK the appearance of Burberry check on clothing items has gone down from 20 to 5 percent. I seriously doubt that Boston has reached a similarly low proportion.

2. Via the Herald’s Inside Track (why oh why doesn’t the Globe have a gossip page?), we see that Tom Brady has left his frumpy point-cap at home for an appearance at the opening of a New York Ermengilda Zegna store.

Which goes to prove that against all odds, it is possible to wear a Zegna suit and not look svelte or smart-set.

3. Bush is still on message with his blue tie.
