The City Council election results have surprised everyone by not being surprising at all. We all expected the infusion of challenger blood and campaign cash to alter the race, as it did the preliminary election. But the incumbents (Flaherty, Arroyo, Hennigan and Murphy) are still councilors. The Herald has an analysis piece reading the results as a win for Mayor Menino:
Even if the mayor has to put up with critics for another two years, the close bunching of the citywide councilors - and the scare two of the incumbents got in this campaign cycle - clearly leaves the mayor the most powerful political figure in Boston. “No one of the field emerged as a threat to Tom Menino,'’ said [former councilor Michael] McCormack, adding the mayor should sleep well tonight.
Rick Klein’s wrapup was fine, but I can’t help but wonder: why can’t the Globe put a little more meat on their local political coverage?
