No gay pride events at Justice Dept.

Posted on Friday 6 June 2003

Hot off the presses:

The Justice Department has barred a group of employees from holding their annual gay pride event at the department’s headquarters, the first time such an event has been blocked by any federal agency, gay rights leaders said today.

Yes, it is a small matter, but it’s very smallness is what’s so maddening. That there would be organized religious-politcal opposition to gay pride observation among an employee group seems odder given the lack of any policy stake involved. And as a management strategy, it’s sheer stupidity - it says to gay lawyers, researchers, and bureaucrats that they are not valued members of the organization.
